BRAVE Workshop

BRAVE Workshop

Taught and Developed by RoKC Head Coach, Connor Link

What is B.R.A.V.E.?

Brave is a simple acronym I created to remind climbers and every-day humans to get more in tune with their bodies and out of their busy minds. This method can be used as a mantra; a constant reminder to stay in control. Be BRAVE!

Course Breakdown

Week 1: Breathe

It all starts here. Controlling your breath helps regulate your body and mind for fluidity and efficiency. During this segment, you’ll gain the tools to assess situations calmly, execute movement and conserve energy, all using the power of breath.

Week 2: Reset

Posture is a key element that indicates confidence and stress level. For this portion you’ll learn to prepare for a climb, settle into your body to find balance and adjust effectively after a mistake.

Week 3: Assess

We all become stressed throughout the day. Over time this stress builds into tension. This tension building can compound ten fold while on a climb. Whether it be over-gripping on comfortable holds or simply clenching your jaw, being aware of your tension and releasing that tension is paramount.

Week 4: Visualize and Enjoy

Visualize

The ability to clearly visualize sequences and read beta is essential in becoming a better climber. Learn to get into the mindset of a route-setter, fully engage in the route-reading process and practice a climb while still standing on the ground.

Enjoy

Having a good climbing partner is vitally important to staying psyched and continuing to improve. At the end of our last session, you’ll learn to be a better climbing partner by fully engaging in “The Process”.
